We Are Harper Theatrical
Founded in 2019, Harper Theatrical works hard to preserve the artistry of theatrical hair and makeup design in programs throughout the country. From coast to coast, high school, university, and community productions benefit from the teach-first method that this organization's volunteers have developed.
Theodora Harper started this organization as a way to help students establish hair and makeup programs at high schools in Nebraska. Since then, she has amassed a talented crew of hair and makeup designers that work tirelessly to provide quality education— alongside wigs and designs—to students and teachers throughout the United States. Theodora prides herself on empowering students to lead their own crews through flexible methods that students may adapt as they see fit.
Theatrical hair and makeup design is an art; we are merely giving the artists skills to exercise their visions. Education should never stifle the creative approach. —Theodora Harper
Even more empowering, Harper Theatrical is a volunteer organization. All professionals provide their education services with the goal of bringing new creative forces into the world of theatre. With passion and practice, we believe that we can help every interested individual find their specialty in the world of theatrical hair and makeup. Due to this, we offer many consultations and workshops to help everyone discover the world of theatre anew.
Upcoming Productions
Harper Theatrical is currently working the students of Bobby Strong High School on their production of Fiddler On the Roof. Wig and Makeup consultations will begin on December 8, 2022, and they will continue until December 12, 2022. The production is set for December 15 through December 18 of 2022. You don't want to miss it!
In the new year, Harper Theatrical will host a brief seminar on airbrushing techniques at Gomez Community College. Airbrushes and paint will be provided for the seminar. However, aprons will not be provided. See Professor Amanda Doe for details on attending or modeling for this event.
In February of 2023, several of Harper Theatrical's members will be attenting the Hands on a Hardbody fundraiser dinner hosted by Alice Murphy and Jimmy Ray. The following charity auction will include an airbrush kit and set of three wigs to benefit the Youths For Theatre foundation.
In April of 2023, Harper Theatrical will be working with the Chicago Institute of Theatrical Arts to provide hair and makeup training to local high school students interested in learning more about the creative process. Although this is a closed event, if you are a high school administrator, consider contacting Harper Theatrical or Dean Tony Higgins to procure admission for your students.
